Before using this chapter, you should be familiar
with Chapter 6: Basic Function Graphing.
Parametric equations consist of both an
x
and
y
component, each
expressed as a function of the same independent variable

.
You can use parametric equations to model projectile motion. The
position of a moving projectile has a horizontal (
x
) and vertical
(
y
) component expressed as a function of time (
t
). For example:
The graph shows the path of the projectile over time, assuming
that only uniform gravity (no drag forces, etc.) is acting on the
projectile.
